That would be me, Helena. I’m an Art Director for a Boston-based speaker company by day, jewelry designer and writer by night. I also write the blog Movie[Crack]House where I review movies I’ve seen and preview upcoming movies if they look interesting.
I’ve been fascinated by the human body and nutrition since I can remember, and have struggled with body image and weight since I was about 10 years old. I was actually thin and athletic until my early 20s, and never had to think about exercise between all the activity I got from ice skating, downhill and xcountry skiing, swimming, bike riding, horseback riding [Dressage], rollerblading, working at a barn doing manual labor, hiking, sledding, playing tennis and basketball… I was always doing something. That all changed when I got my first job after art school. Way less time to do fun things, way more time sitting in front of a computer. I know it’s the same for many of us…
I’m 34 now and have finally made exercise a part of my daily life – I’ve been working out 5-6 days a week for the past 6 months or so – and now I’m finally ready to tackle my eating habits. I started this blog for my own personal use – to ‘document the trip,’ so to speak. I need an outlet and didn’t want to keep boring my husband or my best friend on a daily basis in email with my thoughts, etc., but also I need a place to put the most fun and interesting information I come across where I can easily search through it when I need a refresher. That also goes for recipes. I love to cook and tend to make things up as I go along, but never write anything down. And then I forget and wonder why I can’t think of anything healthy to make for myself when I’m tired of eating crappy. So I’ll be cataloging recipes I love as I go along to have as reference when I’m planning a weekly menu or even just looking for ideas for dinner. I also love trying new products and supplements, so I’ll review items I think are worth trying [if you're into that sort of thing].
If anyone finds this place and enjoys it, great. I hope it benefits you as much as I hope it will, me!
Cheers to good health,
~ HELENA
